ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

The department of Psychology established in Arts, Commerce and Science College, Harsul in 1993 (General Level) and further developed in 2017 (Special Level).

Vision:

To promote the holistic development of the students by applying the principles of Psychology and creating the mental health workers by imparting practical skills among the students

Mission:

Encourage the academic, educational and social development of the students

Impart the practical skills among the students of psychological testing and counseling

To educate the community to promote the mental health and to aware them about the role of psychology in life

Department of Psychology and IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir's Arts, Science and Commerce College, Harsul, Dist. Nashik, has organized One day State Level Webinar on ‘Counselling: Need of the Time” on 12th October 2021, at 11 am, through the Google Meet platform. The Webinar was aimed at creating awareness among the students and community about role of Psychological Counselling and importance of it in the preservation of the mental health. The event was open to all, and the participants could join through the given link.

Honorable Prof. Dr. M. A. Bharadwaj, Vice Principal and HOD, Department of Psychology, MGV’s LVH College, Panchavati,Nashik inaugurated the event. The Resource Person for the Webinar was Prof. Tanmay Joshi, from the Department of Psycholgy, HPT Arts and RYK Science College, Nashik. Dr. M. R. Deshmukh, the Principal of Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir's Arts, Science, and Commerce College, acted as the President of the event. The Vice-Principal, , the Academic Supervisor, and the NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) Co-ordinator also attended the event.

Dr. D. C. Jadhav, HOD, Department of Psychology introduced resource person, Prof. Ganesh Bargaje compared the Program, and Dr. Rajni Patil expressed the vote of thanks. All HOD’s, staff members and students participated in this webinar.

Outcome of the Webinar

The Webinar was a great success, and it created awareness among the participants about the importance of role of various aspects of Psychological Counseling and its importance in the mental health. This initiative by Psychology Department of Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir's Arts, Science, and Commerce College was received very well by all participants

1.PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELLING OF THE STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY

Introduction:

The Department of the Psychology is conducting the sessions of psychological counselling for students and community people. This centre was intended to diagnose the student’s problems and help them with the psychological counselling.

Objectives:

To increase the awareness of various aspects mental health among students and the community

To impart the practical knowledge of psychological counselling and testing among the students of the Department of Psychology

To create awareness about various treatment options of mental illnesses among students

Outcome of the Programme:

  • Increased awareness of the psychology as a subject
  • Increased awareness of the various mental health problems
  • Improved self awareness and self confidence among students
  • Personality development and soft skills development among students

Limitations Experienced:

  • Poor awareness about the psychological counselling and therapies

2.PSYCHOLOGY STUDIO

Introduction:

The Department of Psychology is conducting the interactive sessions with the students, which consists of the role plays, screening of the movies (Mantarang Programme) having the themes of the psychological illnesses.

Objectives:

To create the interest among the students about psychology

To expose them to real life situations in movies through the eyes of a psychologist, and teach those to contemplate on multiple possibilities an individual have to deal with these situations

To work on the prejudices of oneself

To improve the self confidence among the students and to prepare them to work as a mental health professional

To create awareness about various treatment options of mental illnesses among students

Outcome of the Programme:

Increased awareness of the psychology as a subject and increased interest in the students to take psychology subject

Increased awareness of the various mental health problems

Improved self awareness and self confidence among students

  •  The department has qualified and experienced faculty.
  • The department offers psychometric testing and personal counselling to students who approach the teacher.
  • The teachers are engaged in research activities and published research papers in UGC recognized journals and international peer reviewed journals.
  • No colleges in the surrounding vicinity to provide the education in the subject

Weaknesses

  • The specialization is on non-grant basis.
  • The students are belonging to tribal area and there is limited awareness regarding the subject of Psychology

Opportunities

  •  To conduct the community programme to increase the awareness about the subject, and to impart practical knowledge among the students.
  •  To organize seminars and workshops with multidisciplinary approach.
  • To promote students for research work.

Challenges

  • Minimizing the students drop out ratio.
  • Creating awareness of Psychology subject among students whose needs are very basic
  • Convincing students to take the help of counseling for solving their educational and personal issues
