Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir, one of the leading educational institutions of Maharashtra is the embodiment of foresightedness & efforts by its founder member, my grandfather, Hon'ble Late. Karmaveer Bhausaheb Hiray, a Gandhian, a staunch freedom fighter who played a major role in the formation of Maharashtra State and in inculcating Co-operative movement in Nashik District, an educationist and Ex- Revenue minister of then Bombay province. He is the founder the two well-known educational institutions in Nashik District, namely "Adivasi Seva Samiti" in 1945 and "Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir" in 1952. The major objective of these institutions was to provide the educational facilities to the masses from all the spheres, urban, rural and tribal. In 1959, he started a senior college at Malegaon. And opened up the avenues of higher education to all the students in the North Maharashtra region.

The devotional motto of the institution Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir is "Bahujana Hitay Bahujana Sukhay". After the demise of Karmaveer Bhausaheb Hiray, on 6th November 1961, his elder son, my father, Lokenete Vyankatrao Hiray took over the responsibility of the institution. Considering the urgent need of imparting higher education to the masses in Nashik city,started senior colleges in nashik city and other towns of the district. In later phase ,the institution extended its mission by starting senior colleges in rural as well as tribal areas to provide facilities of higher education to the socially and economically backward students, and keep them on the way of education.

Arts, Science and commerce college Harsul is also founded on the noble objectives of making available the higher education facilities to the educationally deprived students of Harsul region. The college has been performing its responsibility successfully. It is proud to mention that number of students of these college are successfully holding good positions in great services, business and social political fields.
